SLIPSTREAM SOLD
Our share in Slipstream has been sold due to continuing dissatisfaction with Ownerships handling of the regular maintenance of the boat and the way in which we, as shareholders, were treated with comtempt. Sadly the site will not be updated as we have no boat, however I hope one day to write up the remainder of our trips, especially the 'notorious' BCN ice trip which led to our complete lack of faith in Ownerships

CanalTravels is a site dedicated to our trips around the Inland Waterways of Britain aboard our shared ownership boat Slipstream. We'll share with you our various journeys via trip reports and photographs, our impressions of some of the places we have stopped to eat (good and bad!) as well as details of the boat itself. Hopefully it will inspire you to venture onto the canals or, if you have your own boat (shared or otherwise), give you a few ideas on where to venture next.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to drop me an email to
If you've got this far then you probably have the right browser - you'll need IE 5.0 or later for everything to work. Netscape 6 will work although some features will not be available. The site looks best at 1024 x 768 but will work fine in 800 x 600. If viewing in 800x600 I recommend that you view the site fullscreen (press F11). The site is pretty graphics intensive so if you've got broadband you're laughing, otherwise just be a little patient, you won't find many canal sites like this one! Read on to see what to expect

Here you'll find details of our shared-ownership boat with a number of photographs of Slipstream on the cut together with photos of the inside
Trip Reports Here we'll describe our journeys aboard Slipstream (and perhaps on other boats that we hired previously) so you will get a taste of what holidaying on the canals is all about. There are a select number of photos in this section but the majority of photos will be in ....
Photo Journeys This is somewhat unique as far as I know. As we journey along the canals on different occasions we'll collect together our photographs and arrange them so that they go in order from the beginning of the canal to the end. Some canals will have only a few photos (to begin with) but others will have extensive coverage. You'll find hundreds of photos here presented initially as thumbnails with 12 on a page but every photo is 'clickable' to bring up a larger image. If you are looking for a particular picture you may well find it here
Route Plans Whenever we go on a trip we take great care in planning so we know what time to start off and roughly when we'll finish the day. Many of you will not wish to be bound by time but we find it convenient to know if we are ahead or behind expectations so we can adjust our day, perhaps stopping off for a longer lunch or pressing on so that we'll have some of the evening left. In this section you'll find our route plans with some notes if we have completed the route. If the plans are any use to you, you can print them out, without our times, as a day per sheet with space to fill in your timings if you wish
Eating Out We like to stop at pubs on the way to save too much cooking (and washing up!) on the boat. Some pubs are great, some are good and some are just a one-time experience. You might not agree with everything we say but these notes could point you to a decent evening meal
Gallery Every once in a while we all take a great photograph and ours will appear here. From this page you have the option of purchasing prints of the images or the rights to reproduce the image itself in any form you wish, details are on the page. Each photo is presented as a framed and matted image but you can select the original image. Thumbnails on the right allow you to select each photo for viewing. Check the INFO panel for details or purchasing Prints or Repro rights.
